Is Guillermo del Toro’s ‘FRANKENSTEIN’ just hype? – Review

Victor Frankenstein

The title of this post, “Is Guillermo del Toro’s ‘FRANKENSTEIN’ just hype?” is a question I asked on X a couple of days before watching this movie.

I got so many replies from people telling me “Yes! It’s a masterpiece.” or “I watched more than 3 times already”.

I actually got many replies from people telling me they already watched it multiple times, so I had big expectations for this movie. Overall, it was a good movie. Yeah, a good movie, not the best movie I have ever seen, and I don’t plan to watch it 3 more times!

I really liked how the movie started, bringing you into the unknown and then slowly pulling you in with a story from Victor himself of his past and how he got to where he is now. The actors were all great in this movie.

The production value was also very good, everything looks really nice, and the pace of the story was nice too, not super rushed and not super slow.

The romance for me was a bit scattered; it has a whole section to it, but after that, it fell off till the end of the movie for the most part. Where at the end a BIG moment happens (I don’t want to spoil), and after that moment the main character almost uses his hate to go after the monster, but really it feels like it’s just hate for himself, not the incident.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty good movie. It was enjoyable, and I found myself wanting to finish it all the way to its conclusion. I would definitely recommend watching the movie if you have Netflix. But, I definitely don’t think it’s a “Masterpiece” that needs to be watched 3 or even 5 times.
