I finally got to watch The Backrooms, and I have to say, this movie was way different than what I thought it was going to be! I thought it was going to be… basic? But it ended up being this really cool mix of exploration and horror.

The whole Backrooms concept is already cool, but I loved how the movie didn’t just do the exploration part of the backrooms, but also brought in the horror of it as well. The idea of the Backrooms absorbing the memories of the people that enter it was really cool too, and it added another layer to everything going on.
I do not want to spoil too much here, but the ending was set up in a way that makes me hope they explore more of this world in the future. The whole complex scene, and how they brought her out of the Backrooms, was honestly really cool. I also did see that they may be doing a part 2 AND possibly a TV show.

The production value was great overall. Everything looked amazing, from the animation to the scenes themselves. I also really liked the darker lighting in the movie. It did not have that oversaturated Netflix look, which I appreciated a lot.
I did have two little nitpicks. There was one scene where the food on a plate changed after the camera panned back, so the continuity was a little off. Also, after she hurt her leg, there were a few moments where it did not really look messed up anymore, which pulled me out of the scene a little bit.
Overall, I thought this was a great movie and honestly one of the best movies I have seen this year. If you enjoy creepy exploration, horror, and the Backrooms concept, I would definitely recommend giving it a watch! It was amazing to see the Backrooms in movie form compared to the games.
